Background
Oldbury Wells School, a prominent educational institution, was in need of a modern and energy-efficient boiler system to replace their ageing infrastructure. The primary goal was to enhance the school’s heating capabilities while improving energy efficiency, reducing operational costs, and minimising their environmental footprint. We were selected to undertake this project, leveraging our extensive expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering services.
Solutions
The solution involved the installation of two Hamworthy Modumax WM254/508V condensing boilers, known for their high efficiency and environmental benefits. These boilers were connected to a PHEX (plate heat exchanger) supplying variable temperature (VT) and constant temperature (CT) heating circuits. Additionally, a Hamworthy PS500 was installed to provide domestic hot water (DHW) for the school.
The project was a collaborative effort:
- Midtherm was responsible for the installation of the flue system, ensuring safe and efficient expulsion of gases.
- Ver Facil Ltd supplied and commissioned the building management system (BMS) and control panels, allowing the school to manage its heating and water systems more effectively.
- Our in-house mechanical and electrical engineers carried out all other tasks, ensuring seamless integration and top-tier quality control from start to finish.
This comprehensive approach ensured that the installation was completed on time, with minimal disruption to the school’s operations.
Results
The installation of the new boiler system has transformed the school’s heating efficiency. The Hamworthy Modumax condensing boilers offer significantly improved energy performance, contributing to lower fuel consumption and reduced carbon emissions. As a result, the school is benefiting from a 30% increase in energy efficiency, which translates to cost savings on heating bills and a more sustainable energy footprint.
Additionally, the advanced control provided by the BMS ensures that heating can be precisely regulated according to the school’s needs, optimising comfort for staff and students while further reducing energy waste.
